December 3rd, 2015
We mark this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities in the wake of the adoption of the ambitious 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This global blueprint for action summons us to “leave no one behind.”
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
Today marks the UN’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Since its inception in 1992, December 3 has globally recognized as a day promote and support accessibility issues in society and development. This year’s theme is “Inclusion Matters: access and empowerment for people of all abilities”. The UN accessibility council, UN Enable, has specifically focused on these three related subthemes this year:
- Making cities inclusive and accessible for all
- Improving disability data and statistics
- Including persons with invisible disabilities in society and development
These themes are especially pertinent for those of us at Accessability Advantage, as they relate so closely with our goal of making the built environment universally accessible.
